The best soccer training equipment you can get is you and a ball. That’s one of the great things about the sport of soccer.
You don’t really need soccer training equipment when it comes to your ball skills.
That being said, there’s definitely training equipment you can get that allow you to do more and have a little more fun. The last thing you want to do is get bored!
Your Athletic Development Is Important!
You also need to be working on your athletic development.
This means:
- Speed
- Strength
- Power
- Agility
- Quickness
- Endurance
- And more
Developing all these athletic traits are important if you want to become a great soccer player.
I’ve compiled a list of the best soccer equipment for training so you can pick and choose what you need. I personally own most of what’s below. If I don’t own it, I’ve used it or gotten a personal recommendation from someone I trust! This is good stuff!
Before going further, I really need to give you my #1 recommendation and that’s my very own Dominate Game Day: The 4 Week Soccer Conditioning Blueprint You Need To Become An Elite Soccer Player.
Dominate Game Day hit #1 on the Amazon Best Seller List
Let’s take a look at all the cool goodies you can include in your soccer training set up.
Best Soccer Training Equipment
Pugg Goals
I know there are a lot of quality portable goals available now but Pugg Goals are still my hands down favorite.
I have four of the four foot Pugg goals pictured below. I’ve had them for the past decade. They’ve survived thousands of sessions and are still going strong!
They are light weight, and literally take about two seconds to set up and break down.
They come in 2.5 foot, 4 foot and 6 foot versions and are fantastic for training and small sided games.
Open Goaaal USA
If you have the space in the backyard this is a great training set up with a goal. You can miss and still not have to chase the ball. Unless you’re really, really bad! Ha!
Sklz Quickster Soccer Trainer
Work on some passing and first touch training all on your own. You can take balls on the ground or even out of the air. You can work on chest trapping, headers and even volleys.
Kwik Goal Soccer Tennis Net
I have not trained a player who doesn’t like soccer tennis. It’s a really fun game that “tricks” players into more training (because they don’t think of it as training).
They get a lot of touches on the ball with focused work on first touch and taking balls out of the air.
Soccer tennis is addictive!
Kwik Goal has a really simple soccer tennis net set up.

Best Soccer Equipment for Strength Training
Dumbbells
What you go with here is up to you depending on your budget and the amount of space you have available. You could go upscale and grab a set of Power Block dumbbells or you could get adjustable dumbbells and extra weights.
Or buy multiple fixed weight dumbbells over time.
Or, hey, all three options eventually! Let’s get hardcore!
A good dumbbell set will last you a lifetime and you’ll be able to do every exercise you’ll want to do in your strength training program.
Adjustable Bench
I think you know what this is. Stick it inside the power rack for the bench press, shoulder presses, etc.
Resistance Bands
Real resistance bands rock. They aren’t the old bands or tubes you think of from silly 80’s exercise videos where no one breaks a sweat.
You can start out with one band but you can also get multiple bands with all different resistance levels.
A complete set of resistance bands is a gym unto itself that you can stick in a bag and take with you.
Not only that, there are exercises you can do with resistance bands that you just can’t do with anything else. And many of those exercises help reduce the chance of injury and that’s huge!
Serious Steel Resistance Stretch Band
The Monster Walk is a great exercise for athletic development and injury prevention. It helps to keep athlete’s from allowing their knee to cave inward.
Suspension Trainer
A good suspension trainer like the Jungle Gym or TRX Go is a fantastic piece of equipment that allows you to do tons of different exercises.
Certain equipment options like resistance bands or a suspension trainer are not only complete gyms by themselves and are very portable.
The suspension trainer is a great tool for soccer players.

Kettlebells
I have to say, the kettlebell is one of my favorite pieces of training equipment.
It’s versatile in terms of exercise selection.
One of the best things about the kettlebell is the ability to do explosive power training much more easily than with a barbell.
Power training is incredibly important for athletes like soccer players.
The ability of an athlete to generate power via producing force into the ground is responsible for speed, agility and quickness, all athletic traits you must have to be a great players.
With the kettlebell, players can learn explosive lifts like the clean, the clean and press and the snatch much more easily and safely than with a barbell.
In addition, the kettlebell swing is a foundational move for learning to generate power from the most important muscle of the body, the hips! Hip hinge movements are crucial for sports, even more so now, when most athletes spend their days sitting down!
The kettlebell swing will make you a more powerful athlete and help prevent injuries, too!

Jump Rope
Everyone needs a jump rope. It’s great as part of a warmup.
With the jump rope you’ll work on balance and coordination as well as it being a low level plyometric exercise that trains your ability to limit ground contact while putting force in the ground to produce power. The end result is more speed, quickness and agility.
It can also be a total body workout that can drench you in sweat in a matter of minutes.
Medicine Ball
Medicine balls are practically a necessity for your soccer training. They help build power! Not to mention core work.
Med ball slams, tosses, rotational throws and more. A safe way to do explosive power training.
Chin Up Bar
Gotta do your chin ups and pull ups! The Ironman Pull Up bar is the simplest set up I’ve seen. It takes seconds to set up and take down.
Here’s one for you. There’s a strong correlation between pull up strength and speed! Yep, you heard me!
Forget the bench press.
It’s the chin up that’s the upper body exercise you need to build strength on to become a better soccer
player!
Agility Cones
Pretty self-explanatory! Great for footwork, agility, quickness, and change of direction, with and without the ball.
Agility Ladder
See above (Agility Cones). Challenge yourself with certain exercises, track time and improvement, etc. Train like an athlete because you are one!
Foam Roller
Some people say foam rollers are overrated or even that they don’t do anything people say they do. All I know is on a personal level, I feel much better when I use one than when I don’t. You should give it a try and see for yourself.
YOU (Bodyweight Exercises)
You can’t beat the price on this one. There are TONS of fantastic bodyweight exercises you can do.

I’M KIDDING!
Shaker Dumbbell Thingy’s
YEP, STILL KIDDING!
Power Rack
If you’re truly a committed player and want to build some real strength to maximize your athletic ability, a power rack is a great idea (if you have the room).
The Power Rack is an awesome and versatile tool. You can do pretty much anything in it and do it in safety, such as bench presses, squats, shoulder presses, etc.
A power rack with an Olympic barbell set and a bench is a complete gym.
Olympic Bar with Weights
You can grab a 300 pound Olympic Barbell set (it will last a lifetime) and it can be all you ever need, even without the power rack.
I own two of them!
It takes up barely any room and you can do most anything you’ll need to do from deadlifts to floor presses, to barbell complexes and more.
Gymboss
I freaking love this thing! Doing timed intervals for conditioning or ball skills?
Speed Hurdles for Soccer
I love my set of speed hurdles. Very versatile.
Heart Rate Monitor
You can get a decent Heart Rate Monitor at a pretty reasonable price nowadays. Or, if you’re a gadget geek with lots of money, you can go crazy here and get one with tons of data that you can download to your computer and analyze until your heart is content!
Soccer Ball
If you get my emails, listen to my podcast, or are in my private Facebook group, you know I love Adidas!
Adidas makes a great soccer ball
Adidas also makes the best soccer boots, hands down! They aren’t flashy, but they are the best. Besides, with everyone getting flashy, it’s the cool, classic look of the Adidias Copas that stands out and screams, “I can play! I make my own statement, not the color of my boots!”
